Commission Disclosures
Here you'll find things that some people seem to think are very important. Mumbo jumbo that - supposedly - someone making a commission "ought to know". So here you go, take a look-see and decide if you think it's really important.
Deposits
There is a minimum deposit of $50 before glass will be selected - or bought - for a commission.
All deposits are non-refundable. As there are multiple deposit amounts and they are non-refundable, The Copper suggests selecting the lowest possible deposit - $50 - however, if there is a desire to pay up-front, a higher deposit may be selected. If the price of the completed item is finalized lower than the amount of the deposit, the excess amount will not be returned.
Patterns
Any patterns created by The Copper during the process of creating a commission will be the sole property of The Copper and may be used in part or in whole during the creation of future products.
If you would like to purchase a pattern created by The Copper during a commission so that you can make another in the same pattern, or have it made by someone else, this may be possible to arrange on a case-by-case basis during the consultation as separate purchase and cost.
If you would like to purchase the sole rights to a pattern created by The Copper so that she is not free to create the same piece again, this may be possible to arrange on a case by case basis during the consultation as a separate purchase and cost.
Hanging
Be warned, glass is both fragile and heavy. As such, if you decide to hang a piece, you take on all risk associated with the possible breakage of said piece.
That being said, The Copper would especially like to warn you: do not use suction cups to hang your piece. While it is possible for suction cups to hold for a time, it is not a question of if the suction cup fails, but rather when it fails. If you decide to hang with a suction cup, it may last as long as you were to hang the piece, but this is highly unlikely.
Ideally, it is suggested to find a sturdy place to insert a screw, into wood, to hold a hanging piece. This is, by far, the safest and most sturdy method of hanging.
If this is not available, there may be adhesive hooks rated for the weight of your piece. If looking to hang using an adhesive hook, The Copper suggests finding one with a large, square adhesive surface in order to ensure good adhesion, and to test and/or replace the hook regularly.
Additionally, if using an adhesive hook to hang on an exterior window, even on the inside of the window, please make sure to use a hook that is designed to be used in an outdoor setting. UV rays from the sun can break down some adhesives, so this is very important.
Breakage
Our pieces are made of real glass, and as such are fragile and heavy. This can unfortunately lead to them breaking sometimes.
If a break occurs during shipping, before a piece is received, please contact us using the Contact The Copper form or in response to your most recent contact from The Copper and let us know what happened within 10 days of the item being delivered. Please attach a photo of the condition of the item with your contact. The Copper will do her best to work with you to cover the cost of shipping the piece back to us and repairing or replacing the piece.
If a piece breaks after you have received it, please contact us. While it is unlikely that The Copper will be able to arrange to fix the piece free of charge, she does care for both her pieces and her customers and will try to find a solution that will work for all involved to see your piece fixed.
Solder
When working with the copper foil method of stained glass, solder is used to hold pieces together. All customers should be aware that most solder contains lead, which can be hazardous to your health.
The lead content of the solder we commonly use is low enough that it does not require special care for most uses. Please try not to put any of our pieces in your mouth, or against anything you will put in your mouth, unless stated otherwise. Additionally, please try to avoid keeping our pieces pressed against your skin regularly for long periods of time (think jewelry which would rest against you for hours every day) unless stated otherwise.
Other than these precautions, your piece should be entirely safe to handle - The Copper works with these pieces, solders them, and handles them, all without equipment to protect her from skin contact with the solder she uses, so even significant handling that does not meet the above situations should be safe.
If you would like a piece that is intended to be against skin for extended periods of time like jewelry, or something that is intended to be around food or foodstuffs, please speak with The Copper during your consultation about using lead-free solder.
Commission Refund Policy
In all cases, any deposit paid on a commission is non-refundable. As a final piece will not be shipped until payment is finalized, it is rare for a return to arise.
If a piece is not to your liking when it is received, there is a possibility of return. Please notify us using the Contact The Copper form within 10 days of receiving your item. In many cases, a refund of up to 50% of the post-deposit cost can be arranged.
One exception is if the piece is a recoloring of a piece we offer in the shop. In this case, The Copper will be able to refund 100% of the post-deposit cost.
Another exception is if the piece is customized with something like a name or significant date. In these cases, The Copper will unfortunately not be able to secure a refund.
In all cases of return for refund, the customer will need to secure shipping back to The Copper's Workshop.
