Commissions

What is a commission?

A commission is simply an order for a piece of art to be made. If you like The Copper's art style and want something that you don't already see in our catalogue, you can make a commission to ask her to make it just for you!

A commission could be a brand new image you thought up entirely on your own, it could be a recolor of something we already have in stock or have made before, or anything in between! Feel free to take inspiration from previous works and current stock when making a commission!

What should I expect from the process?

Step One: The Request

To begin a commission, The Copper needs to hear from you! While she's tried to make this step as easy as possible, it might be a good idea to check out our page on How to Commission before heading over to our Commission Request Form. Once you fill out that form, it will send a request straight to The Copper!

Step Two: The Check

Once you've put in a commission request, The Copper will need some time to look it over. She tries to keep her responses prompt, so you can expect a message within 72 hours. If you don't hear back by that time, your request may not have made it through, so it might be best to try again!

Once The Copper contacts you, she will let you know if there are any issues with the design, and if she is able and willing to take on the commission. This is also where she will try to let you know an idea of how long it might take her to start your request. This timeline can vary significantly depending on how many commissions she is currently working on. She will also be able to give you an idea of how long it will take to complete your art piece once she begins the process.

Step Three: The Design

This step should be the first to take a while. It can also include a varying number of messages between you and The Copper as she tries to make a design that takes your imagination and brings it to life. After making an initial sketch, you'll have the chance to give feedback, and she will try to refine her design until it is just right for you!

Step Four: The Deposit

Finally, the time has come for some money to change hands. The Copper is setting up to start your project, and to do so will need to find and buy just the right glass. So that money isn't wasted in the case of a cancellation, she will need a deposit before she starts the process.

Step Five: The Art

Now come The Copper's real magic. She will find the right glass for your project, cut it, shape it, and solder it together into a one-of-a-kind art piece to make your imagination come to life! The amount of time this takes can vary wildly depending on the size and complexity of your piece of art, but you'll have some kind of idea from her estimate in Step Two! Depending on your answers in steps one and two, you may also receive in-progress pictures as it's being created!

Step Six: Completion and Homecoming

Now that The Copper has worked her magic, you'll get some pictures of the completed piece and payment will be finalized. After that, the shiny will be packed up safe and shipped off to its new home - with you!
